Acrylic glass sign – an elegant glass look for practices, law firms and receptions

An acrylic glass sign from folie.ch is a crystal-clear 5 mm panel printed on the reverse: the print sits protected behind the glass, which gives it depth and a high-end look. You design it online from CHF 49.–, from 1 piece, in four standard formats or a custom size up to 2000 × 1000 mm. Printed in Wallisellen near Zurich, shipped across Switzerland.

What does «reverse-printed» mean?

With an acrylic glass sign, the design is printed mirror-inverted on the back of the panel. From the front you read it the right way round – through 5 mm of clear acrylic glass. That has two advantages: the ink sits protected between glass and wall and can’t be scratched when cleaning, and the thickness of the glass creates visible depth that a directly printed sign doesn’t have.

We take care of the mirroring in production. You design in the designer as normal, exactly as the sign should look later.

Who is an acrylic glass sign suitable for?

Acrylic glass is the typical material when a sign needs to look professional and trustworthy – especially indoors and in sheltered entrance areas:

  • Medical, dental and therapy practices: practice sign with name, speciality and consulting hours
  • Law firms, notaries, accountants: firm sign in the stairwell or next to the door
  • Reception and front desk: logo sign behind the reception counter
  • Hairdressers, beauty salons, boutiques: opening hours and logo at the entrance
  • Offices and coworking: company and room signs on every floor

For a facade fully exposed to wind, rain and road dirt, we’d rather recommend an Alu-Dibond sign.

Transparent or opaque design?

Wherever you don’t add anything, the acrylic glass stays crystal clear – the wall behind shows through. That’s the typical «floating» look where only the lettering and logo are visible. To make it work, keep three things in mind:

  • Consider the wall colour: on a white wall, dark lettering (black, anthracite, dark green, navy) works best. On a dark wall, dark lettering disappears.
  • Full-surface background: if you want a coloured area, add a rectangle as the background in the designer. The sign then looks like a coloured glass panel.
  • Leave a margin: with spacers, the fittings sit about 2–3 cm from the edge. Text and logo shouldn’t touch this area.

Which formats are available – and which one suits you?

FormatTypical use
300 × 200 mmpractice or law firm sign next to the flat or office door
400 × 300 mmsign in the entrance area with name, speciality, consulting hours
600 × 400 mmlogo sign at reception, company sign in the foyer
800 × 600 mmlarge reception or directional sign

Any other size from 100 × 50 to 2000 × 1000 mm is also possible, for example as a narrow landscape panel above a door. For signs smaller than 150 × 75 mm, such as at the doorbell, the door sign is the better option.

Mounting and care

Acrylic glass signs are most often mounted with stainless steel spacers (option, 4 pieces): they hold the panel a little away from the wall, creating the shadow that makes the sign look three-dimensional. Alternatively, choose 4 drill holes Ø 8 mm for your own screws or fixings.

For cleaning, a soft, damp cloth with a little mild soapy water is all you need. Don’t use alcohol-based glass cleaners, solvents or scouring sponges – they can make the surface of acrylic glass dull or cracked.

How much does an acrylic glass sign cost?

An acrylic glass sign costs from CHF 49.– at folie.ch; the exact price depends on the area and appears instantly in the designer. From 5 identical signs you get 5 % off, from 10 pieces 10 % – for example for the same logo sign on every floor or at several locations. There are no set-up costs.

Frequently asked questions

Can an acrylic glass sign hang outdoors?

Under a canopy or in a sheltered entrance, yes. For a facade fully exposed to the weather we recommend Alu-Dibond, as it’s less sensitive to dirt, scratches and heat.

How thick is the acrylic glass?

The panel is 5 mm thick and crystal clear. This thickness creates the typical sense of depth and is stable enough for formats up to 2 m wide.

Can I order an acrylic glass sign with a white background?

Yes. Simply add a white or coloured rectangle as the background in the designer, and the sign will be opaque instead of see-through.

Are the spacers included in the price?

No, you add the 4 stainless steel spacers as an option in the designer. Alternatively, there are 4 drill holes Ø 8 mm for your own fixings.

What should I clean an acrylic glass sign with?

With a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid alcohol, solvents and abrasive cleaners.

Is acrylic glass the same as Plexiglas?

Plexiglas is a well-known brand name for acrylic glass (PMMA). It’s the same material: light, crystal clear and more shatter-resistant than ordinary glass.
