Door signs, letterbox signs and doorbell nameplates made to measure

For most letterboxes and doorbell panels, a narrow sign in 70 × 20 mm fits; for a flat door, 100 × 50 mm is common. The standard sizes and what they’re typically used for:

Letterbox systems aren’t standardised. So measure the name field and enter exactly that size as a custom size in the designer – anything from 40 × 15 to 300 × 300 mm is possible, accurate to the millimetre.

• White aluminium – the most affordable material, clearly legible, suits almost any letterbox system. The right choice for apartment buildings with uniform signs.
• Brushed aluminium – metallic look, matching stainless steel letterboxes and modern doorbell panels. Best with black or dark grey lettering.
• Clear acrylic glass – crystal clear with a sense of depth, looks particularly elegant on office doors and on light wooden or glass doors.

All three versions are suitable for indoors and outdoors. A sign on a letterbox typically lasts several years outdoors.

Property management companies, caretakers and condominium owners often order the signs for an entire building. The easiest way is to design one sample and then just change the name:

1. Design one sign in the designer: set material, format, font and alignment.
2. Swap the name for each household and add the sign to the basket – font and layout stay identical.
3. We check all files and produce the signs together in one run.

The volume discount applies to identical signs in one order line: 10 % from 5 pieces, 15 % from 10 pieces, 20 % from 25 pieces. It pays off, for example, for «No advertising please» signs on all letterboxes, for notices such as «Private» or «Deliveries», and for company signs on several letterboxes of the same company. Uniform nameplates don’t just look tidy – they also make it easier for the post, couriers and emergency services to find the right place.

In Switzerland, the letterbox usually shows the surname – or, with several names, everyone who receives post there. If a name is missing from the letterbox, delivery can become difficult. What works well:

• Surname large, first names smaller after or below it, e.g. «Muster-Keller · Anna & Marc».
• For companies on the letterbox: the company name as in the commercial register, plus «c/o» if subletting.
• A clearly legible font that isn’t too thin. On a sign 20 mm high, the name should be around 6–8 mm high.

Every sign comes with an adhesive pad on the back as standard, at no extra cost. For a permanent screw fixing, choose 2 drill holes instead (+CHF 4). How to make the adhesive pad hold best:

1. Clean the surface with alcohol or glass cleaner so it’s free of grease and dust, and let it dry.
2. Don’t stick in the cold: below about 10 °C, adhesive grips less well – in winter, warm up the sign and the surface first.
3. Align the sign, peel off the backing paper and press firmly for around 30 seconds.

If your letterbox has a slot-in compartment behind a clear cover, it’s usually meant for paper inserts. Check beforehand whether a rigid sign fits – otherwise it’s better to stick it on the outside of the field.
