Who letters a Caddy Cargo?
The Caddy Cargo is the classic vehicle for businesses that carry more tools than materials: service technicians for heating, plumbing and household appliances, caretakers and facility services, IT support, locksmiths, courier and pharmacy deliveries. Because it fits into any normal parking space, it is often parked right outside the customer’s entrance – where your lettering is seen from just a few metres away.
Many Caddys also run in fleets of several identical vehicles. A consistent design makes your business instantly recognisable in the neighbourhood and lowers the price per vehicle by 5 % (from 2), 10 % (from 5) or 15 % (from 10).
Which areas of the Caddy Cargo work best?
The closed side panel behind the B-pillar is the main advertising space on the Caddy Cargo; it is shorter than on a large van, but has no windows and is easy to see.
| Area | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Rear side panel / sliding door | Company name and one line about your services; place the sliding-door gap between two words |
| Front doors | Logo, clearly visible as you get in and out in front of customers |
| Rear (barn doors or tailgate) | Website or phone number on one line |
| Side area above the rear wheel | QR code or emergency number, if it suits what you offer |
| Front | usually left clear, possibly the website above the windscreen |
Shape details: shoulder line, handles, short panels
The current-generation Caddy has a pronounced, continuous shoulder line at door-handle height and a smooth surface beneath it – that is where lettering sits best.
- Below the shoulder line: The area between the line and the wheel arch is flat and at passers-by’s eye level. Ideal for the company name.
- Above the shoulder line: A narrow line fits here, such as the website. Avoid large lettering running over the edge.
- Handles and fuel flap: The vinyl is cut out around them; small text right next to them would otherwise lose letters.
- Rear doors: With barn doors, a vertical gap runs down the middle – set the text separately on each door. With a tailgate, one continuous line is possible.
Design tips: what fits on a small van?
A Caddy needs three pieces of information: your company name, what you do and how to reach you – anything more makes the lettering too small.
- Company name 10–15 cm high: That is enough for typical reading distances in the neighbourhood and leaves room for the services line.
- One strong logo instead of pictures: Photos quickly look busy on small areas. A single-colour logo in cut vinyl is clearer and cheaper.
- Contrast before colour: Many Caddys are white or silver-grey. Dark lettering on white or white on dark paint works better than a brand colour with weak contrast.
- QR code only if large enough: Below roughly 10 cm per side it can hardly be scanned from a few metres away. You can create one in the designer with a single click.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to letter a VW Caddy Cargo?
A logo and contact details (approx. 1 m² of cut vinyl) cost approx. CHF 400.– incl. fitting and VAT. The designer shows the guide price for your design instantly.
Does the template also work for the Caddy Maxi or older models?
The online template is the standard-length Caddy Cargo from 2020. We also letter the Caddy Maxi and older generations based on photos.
How much text fits on a Caddy?
Your company name, one line about your services and your website or phone number. More text makes the lettering so small that it can no longer be read in traffic.
Is a QR code on a van worth it?
Yes, if it is large enough – around 10 cm per side or more – and placed where people stop, for example on the rear or the side panel.
We have five Caddys – is there a discount?
Yes. For vehicles with identical lettering you get a 10 % discount from 5 vehicles, 5 % from 2 and 15 % from 10.
Can I also letter a plug-in hybrid Caddy?
Yes, the bodywork is practically identical for lettering purposes. We leave the charging and fuel flaps clear so they open normally.
